Trip to California by Gordon and Juanita, WA

On our trip the first day we drove from Tacoma to Redding, California 596 miles. We had some rain and fog in Washington an Oregon. The rivers were flooded in Washington. the Skookumchuck River, the Newauken River, the Kalama river (indian Names) We saw many huge log trucks and in Oregon many sheep ranches.

The second day we drove 300 miles from Redding to Lemoore California. We saw almon groves, olive groves, some orange orchards, and huge rice fields. We saw many birds on some of the rice fields. There were many huge rice storage areas.

The third we drove from Lemore California to Riverside California another 300 miles. We saw huge dairry farms ---undreds of animals, corn fields, alfalfa fields, and huge grape fields.

It is very dry here and they use canals for water.

Palm Springs is in a valley and it is yellow and dry with lots of dust. They have lots of windmills for power on the outside of the Palm Springs, There are many small communities in the valley. In Palm Springs there are 50,000 people and many people come here to vacation in the winter time. They come to play golf. When you look at the mountains they look dry and brown. This is a desert area. Poeple come and stay in the resorts and hotels.

They plant trees and flowers around the hotels and they look beautiful. Some of the houses in the area do not look very nice because they do not have the trees and flowers. The fields
